Visit to Dumping Site Alawathugoda

In the morning at around 10.00 am Mr. Tuan and Mr. Janan went on a field survey on waste disposal near Akurana town and Alawathugoda. They Have taken pictures from the waste disposal site of Alawathugoda and areas near and how the waste disposal management being done by the Alawathugoda Pradeshiya Sabawa, also they have spoken to the workers on the site.

We spoke to a man who’s working there for an extended period as a permanent employee Mr. Subramaniyam. He said that every day except Poya days and some days, they are receiving 3 garbage trucks to the center per day. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, they collect only plastics and cardboard. We have some videos of our conversation.

Hospital disposals are bringing there as well. Not including clingers & needles as they said.

They are making compost out from garbage.

The day we went there, they were burning some of the garbage.  Ms. Nasliya the Environmental officer, confirmed that they had to burn garbage because they are running out of space. She was explaining about Akurana garbage problem due to Akurana people dumping garbage everywhere.
